| As neoplasias do sistema hematopoiético são comuns em cães e gatos. Apesar de as leucemias representarem menos de 10% destas, sendo consideradas raras, deve-se atentar para os sinais clínicos que quase sempre são vagos e inespecíficos. Clinicamente, é importante definir o diagnóstico e classificar as leucemias para instituir o tratamento específico e definir o prognóstico dos animais doentes. A leucemia é definida como uma neoplasia maligna progressiva marcada por uma proliferação desordenada das células hematopoiéticas no sangue e na medula óssea. | El presente estudio aborda un problema de localización de centros de acopio y plantas productoras de etanol y biodiésel en Chile. Se propuso un modelo de localización de facilidades que minimiza los costos involucrados desde la producción de los cultivos agrícolas, hasta la distribución de los biocombustibles a los centros de consumo más importantes. Se evaluaron escenarios de 2, 5 y 10 % de sustitución de la demanda de gasolina y 2, 5 y 8 % de diesel proyectada al 2010. Se consideraron tres tamaños de planta: 40 000, 80 000 y 100 000 m³ año-1 para las que producen etanol y 20 000, 40 000 y 60 000 m³ año-1, para las que producen biodiésel. | The incidence of drug-resistant pathogens differs greatly between countries according to differences in the usage of antibiotics. The purpose of this study was to investigate the phenotypic resistance of 321 methicillin resistance Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and 195 methicillin susceptible S. aureus (MSSA) in a total of 516 S. aureus strains to macrolide, lincosamide, streptogramin B (MLS B), ketolid, and linezolid. Disk diffusion method was applied to determine MLS B phenotype and susceptibility to different antibiotic agents. | The present study deals with the fisheries of two Sparid fish species in Abu Qir Bay. Family Sparidae represents about 17 % of the landed catch from the Bay. Among the family; genus Diplodus is generally caught by trammel nets, beach and purse seines but mostly by longlines. Two species of this genus were considered here for study. They are namely D. sargus and D. vulgaris where they represent by about 4.2% of the landed catch during the year 2008 in the Bay (GAFRD, 2008). | It is now well-known that plants can uptake not only inorganic nitrogen but also organic nitrogen compounds, mainly amino acids. However, soil proteins are the main pool of amino acids. According to our earlier papers, plants can get access to this source of nitrogen using root-secreted proteases, but the level of proteolytic activity of such root-secreted proteases is species-specific. Our aim was to compare the use of protein as nitrogen source by two vegetable crops having high (Allium porrum) or low (Lactuca sativa) level of activity of root-secreted proteases. A principal iniciativa baseia-se no Programa de Subvenção ao Prêmio do Seguro Rural, que garante um nível mínimo de produtividade em caso de perdas decorrentes de eventos climáticos. Recentemente, algumas seguradoras passaram a disponibilizar em seu portfólio o seguro receita, que visa segurar o produtor contra quedas bruscas em sua produtividade, preços de mercado, ou uma combinação de ambos. | O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o desempenho de um modelo probabilístico de amostragem estratificada por pontos, e definir um tamanho de amostra adequado para estimar a área cultivada com soja no Rio Grande do Sul. A área foi estratificada de acordo com a percentagem de soja cultivada em cada município do estado: menor que 20, de 20 a 40 e maior que 40%. Foram avaliadas estimativas obtidas por meio de seis tamanhos de amostras, resultantes da combinação de três níveis de significância (10, 5 e 1%) e dois valores de erro amostral (5 e 2,5%). | This work aimed to evaluate the effects of grazing intensities and nitrogen fertilization levels on the dynamics of a Brachiaria plantaginea pasture. The experiment was laid out as a random block design, in a 3 × 2 factorial scheme, composed of three nitrogen levels (0, 200 and 400 kg/ha nitrogen in urea form) and two grazing intensities termed low mass (LM; forage mass of 1500 kg of DM/ha) and high mass (HM; forage mass of 3000 kg of DM/ha) in a continuously stocked swards with two replications. | This report summarizes a series of projects undertaken by staff and students in the Department of Rural Economy which examine various socio-economic aspects of chronic wasting disease and its effect on a range of stakeholders in Alberta. The four projects included exploring impacts on the cervid farming industry, hunters, the general Albertan public, and certain Aboriginal groups. General results from these studies are presented with references that provide a more thorough analysis and discussion. |
